New Study Reveals Circumcised African men Less Likely to Engage in Risky S*x & Catch HIV!

Young African men who are circumcised are less likely to engage in sexual behavior that ups their chances of catching HIV, a new research by University of Illinois researchers has revealed!

Led by Nelli Westercamp, PhD., and with a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the team of researchers studied voluntary medical male circumcision in Kenya between 2008 and 2010. Within the two-year window, half of the 3,186 men, ages 18-35, studied got circumcised.

All of the men were asked every six months about their sexual behaviors, whether or not they used condoms and how at-risk they thought they were for getting HIV. They were also encouraged to attend HIV testing clinics and watch educational HIV videos.

While circumcised and uncircumcised men both increased their sexual activity by the same amount during the study period, condom use increased among both groups, but engagement in risky sex behaviors did not. Those behaviors include having multiple partners and exchanging money or gifts for sex.

The researchers also found that circumcised men thought they were at a lower risk for getting HIV than they were before they were circumcised. Before they got snipped, 30% of circumcised men thought they were at a high risk for HIV, but after, only 14% thought so. For uncircumcised men, 25% believed they were at high risk of HIV before the study, while 21% believed they were still at high risk when the study ended.

The numbers suggest that the benefits of offering circumcision outweigh the risks of doing so. Hence trying to encourage communities that have been holding back on implementing medical circumcision. The research appears in the July 21 edition of AIDS and Behavior.

The Abia state police command has paraded, among others, a 27 year old undergraduate of Madonna University, Chijioke Ezebuiro, for allegedly killing his 87 year old father, Dr Emmanuel Ezebuiro.

Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia, NigerianTribune reports that the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who paraded the suspect alongside other cultists and robbers, said that Chijioke Ezebuiro  is the prime suspect as he was the only person in the house at the time of his late father’s death.

Ogbonna said that the death occurred on June 30, 2014 at the deceased home at Umuoriehi, Isingwu
in Umuahia North local government area and was reported to the police by one Ezebuiro Chimezie of the same address who said the deceased had been bed ridden for some years.

He said that on the fateful day he (Chimezie) had left him in the house to drop his children in school and that when he came back, he met the deceased on the ground in his own pool of blood and quickly called the deceased personal doctor who confirmed him dead.

The PPRO said that the complainant had told the police that when he left the house to drop his children, the suspect, Chijioke Ezebuiro, his younger brother, was the only one in the house when the incident occurred, adding that the suspect had threatened his father’s life a number of times.

Sevilla attacker Iago Aspas has slammed Fifa's treatment of his former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez, claiming the new Barcelona signing has been punished "like a murderer".

Suarez was not only handed a nine-game international suspension and a hefty fine, but was also banned from taking part in any football related activity for four months prior to his €88 million switch to Camp Nou.

The Uruguay international's punishment prevented Barcelona from staging an official unveiling of the player and Aspas feels Fifa is treating Suarez like a criminal rather than a footballer.

"They are treating Luis like a murderer and not like a footballer," Aspas told Cadena Cope.

"I understand his nine-game international ban because of the incidents that took place in the past.

"But the rest of the sanction, which doesn't allow Barcelona to present him to the media and fans, is too much in my opinion."

The 27-year-old Suarez will not be allowed to make his Barcelona debut until October 26, when his ban comes to an end.

Barcelona have confirmed that they have reached a deal that will see them sign Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia on a four-year deal for a fee of €20 million.

The Catalans were looking to sign a new centre-back following the retirement of Carles Puyol at the end of the 2013-14 campaign and they have long been pursuing 30-year-old Mathieu.

After protracted negotations, Barca have finally secured the signing of the Frenchman, who will have a €50m buyout clause in his new contract after becoming one of the most expensive players at the age of 30 or over in history.

"Barcelona and Valencia have reached an agreement for the transfer of the French player Jeremy Mathieu," a statement on the club's official website reads.

"Jeremy Mathieu will sign a contract with Barcelona for the next four seasons plus an optional season more.

"The cost of the transfer is €20 million and the buyout clause will be €50m."

Mathieu started his professional career with Sochaux and also wore the Toulouse jersey before joining Valencia in the summer of 2009.

The defender had since made 177 appearances in all competitions for the Mestalla side, scoring seven goals in the process.

Two explosions have ripped through the northern Nigeria city of Kaduna, killing dozens of people, police say.

 

The first explosion targeted moderate Islamic cleric Dahiru Bauchi while the second one targeted senior opposition leader Muhammadu Buhari, a BBC reporter in the city says. Both are said to have escaped unhurt. But there are body parts and damaged cars on the busy Alkali Road in the city centre where the bomb targeting Mr Bauchi exploded, reports the BBC's Abdullahi Kaura Abubakar from the scene.

While the police confirmed that 25 persons died in the first blast, which took place after a Ramada Lecture, the number of casualties in the second explosion had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Bomblast in Kaduna

A bomb concealed in a red Volkswagen golf car one went off this afternoon July 23rd along Alkali road which leads to the popular Murtala Square in Central Kaduna killing at least 15 people.

According to eyewitnesses, the bomb went off as a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, drove past the road. They believe the bomb was target at his convoy but according to witnesses, the cleric escaped unhurt while passersby were killed. At least 25 bodies have so far been receovered

Other witnesses said the bomb was targeted at thousands of Muslims who gathered at the Murtala Square for Ramadan Tafsir under the leadership of Sheikh Bauchi. (pictured above)

The cleric is said to be an outspoken critic of Boko Haram and was on his way to the Murtala Square when the bomb went off.
